Q. When should I start the course?
A. You can start the course any time you’d like to. I recommend beginning between 20 and 30 weeks of pregnancy, and no later than 33 weeks, to allow enough time to complete the course before your baby’s birth.
Q. How much does the course cost?
A. My class fee is $200. Prices are subject to change.
Q. Do you offer group classes?
A. I mainly offer private classes, but I am happy to teach a group if you have other pregnant friends and you’d like to take the class together.
Q. Can I take your class if I’m doing Hypnobabies Home Study?
A. No, my class is for non-Hypnobabies students. This is because Hypnobabies is all-inclusive, and my material would be repetitive and potentially take your time and attention away from focusing on learning and practicing your Hypnobabies tools. For Hypnobabies Home Study students, I offer a Home Study Advantage class. See my Hypnobabies Class FAQ for more information on that. That being said, Better Birthing does include hypnosis, if you are interested in using hypnosis for childbirth (it is completely optional).
Q. Do I need to have a birth partner?
A. No. Having a birth partner is wonderful, and if you have one they are encouraged to attend. If you don’t have a birth partner, that’s okay too. You are welcome to bring your doula, or a friend or family member who plans to help support you during your birth. You are also welcome to come by yourself, if that is what you prefer.
Q. Where are classes taught?
A: I teach from my home in Temecula, California. I can also teach in your home, for an additional travel fee. I can travel up to 45 minutes each way. My travel fee ranges from $50-$200, depending on the distance.
Q. What topics are covered in this course?
A. The first class is about the birth process, since for many students this is what they are most anxious to learn about. The second class is about staying healthy during pregnancy. The third class is about making informed choices during pregnancy and birthing, and planning your empowering experience. The fourth class is about tools, techniques, and positions to use during birthing time, and this is when we have a birthing practice session to rehearse and envision your birth experience. The fifth and final class is about your baby’s first days and weeks out of the womb, your options for caring for your baby including breastfeeding, other early parenting topics, and any other topics of your choice. For each class, there will be plenty of time for you to ask questions and get more information about topics that are most important to you.
Q. How is this class personalized for students?
A. Before beginning the course, I will talk with you about what ideas you already have about your baby’s birth. I will get to know any special concerns you might have, and cater to those concerns as I teach the course. For example, if you are set on having a natural birth, I will give you more information about techniques you might use for that. Or, if you are set on having an epidural, I will give you more detailed information about that. Of course, if you don’t know what you want yet then that’s perfectly fine, too. This course is all about helping you understand your options and learning about this new experience you are about to have.
Your Better Birthing class may be customized to include hypnosis, if you wish. I have created scripts and tools that work very similarly to what is taught in Hypnobabies, but simpler.
This course is also personalized based on whether you would like Christian faith-based elements to be included or not.
Q. Is this class for first-time parents only?
A. No, not at all! Every pregnancy, birth, and baby are different. It’s a great idea to take a childbirth class before any birth, no matter what number baby it is in your family. Your knowledge will be refreshed, and you may even learn something new. Taking the time to think and plan for your baby’s birth is a fantastic step towards having a positive birth experience.
